Kara Alexander has been found guilty of killing her two young sons. The tragic incident took place in December 2022 in their east London home. Elijah, two years old, and Marley Thomas, five years old, were found dead in their bunk bed by their father, Selvin Thomas. When he entered the house, he found a barricade of toys behind the front door. He rushed to the boys’ bedroom and found them lying side-by-side on their bunk bed, with the duvet up to their shoulders. He touched Marley’s face, feeling the coldness that confirmed their tragic fate.
The cause of death was determined to be drowning or suffocation, with traces of cannabis found in the boys’ blood. Alexander claimed that she had left the boys alone in the bath while she smoked cannabis, leading to the fatal incident. Marley and Elijah, also known as Teddy, had previously lived with Alexander and Thomas in Hackney before their separation, after which Alexander moved to Dagenham with the boys.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Waller, who led the investigation, expressed sympathy for the family, especially for the boys’ father who made the devastating discovery.
